Plywood and oriented strand board (OSB) are used in roof sheathing systems ranging from simple single-family residences to large commercial buildings. Common roof sheathing applications and installation recommendations are described in the related publications listed at right. Correct installation of roof sheathing will ensure the best performance and help reduce complaints and callbacks. For information on large panelized roof systems, refer to the Commercial Construction application section.
Glulam Ridge Beams Create Large, Open Spaces
Glulam has greater strength and stiffness than comparable dimensional lumber. Pound for pound, it’s stronger than steel. That means glulam beams can span long distances with minimal need for intermediate supports. In roofs, that gives building designers the flexibility to create large, open spaces without the need for intermediate supports.
