Gulf Coast rebuilding efforts, the housing market, employee recruitment and retention, and an update on APA’s Vision 2009 Strategic Plan will be among the subjects addressed during APA’s 69th annual meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa near San Antonio, Texas October 28-31.

The meeting also will feature the largest ever Info Fair supplier exhibition, with more than 60 industry product, equipment and service providers signed up to display their wares. 

Headlining the general session on Monday, October 30, will be Dr. Loren Scott, president of Loren C. Scott & Associates, an economic consulting firm.  A former chairman of the Department of Economics at Louisiana State University, Scott will present an update on Gulf Coast rebuilding efforts. 

Also on the general session agenda are reports by APA Chairman Jonathan Martin and President Dennis Hardman on the state of the industry and Association, and recognition of the winners of the latest APA Mill Safety Awards Competition. 

Three roundtable sessions will follow the general session.  The topics and their discussion leaders will be:

• Low-rise commercial construction, with John Langdon, an architect with the North Carolina-based architectural and design engineering firm FreemanWhite, which specializes in senior living and healthcare facilities. 
• Residential construction trends, featuring John Mikkelson, senior vice president , purchasing and business development at CTX Builders Supply, a division of Centex Homes. 
• Employee recruitment and retention challenges, led by Carl Jansen, president of Search North America, Inc., a leading forest products industry personnel recruiting and consulting firm. 

The Marketing Advisory Committee meeting, also on Monday, will feature a panel of commercial design professionals who will address factors that influence their product specifications.  The panelists are Tom Dube, senior project manager at Cutler Associates, Worcester, Mass.; Steve Siegel, owner and president of Siegel Associates, Inc., Newton Centre, Mass.; and Matt Brady, principal with Ware Malcomb, San Diego, Calif.  APA Market Research Craig Adair also will present his latest market forecast. 

Other events on the meeting schedule include an Engineered Wood Technology Association-sponsored reception, numerous advisory committee meetings, golf and tennis tournaments, a spouses sightseeing tour and lunch program, and membership reception and dinner.

Located 20 minutes from San Antonio International Airport, the 500-guest room resort is surrounded by an 18-hole golf course and features jogging paths, nature trails, a four-acre water park, three tennis courts, and seven restaurants and lounges.  The resort is conveniently located near Sea World of Texas and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park, as well as downtown attractions, such as the Alamo and San Antonio River Walk.
