Nail pop or backout describes the protrusion of nail heads above the surface some time after they were originally driven into wood. This can occur when green (wet) lumber shrinks because of drying. Nail pops are a concern because they can create aesthetic issues with roofing and flooring, cause floor squeaks and lead to quality issues for builders and homeowners.
