The American Wood Protection Agency (AWPA) publishes Standard U1, Use Category System: User Specification for Treated Wood. This standard prescribes the requirements for preservative treated wood for use in different end-use environments denoted by “use category” (UC). In 2016, AWPA made revisions to the U1 standard that relate to preservatives in sawn lumber and timber.
