Recommendations for Snow and Ice on Wood Structural Panels

Technical Topic

Snow and ice accumulation on floors at a construction site can create a safety hazard, impede construction and interfere with normal workflows. While the presence of water, snow and ice during normal construction periods will not diminish the structural or serviceability performance of wood structural panels, it is advantageous to remove or eliminate snow and ice during construction.

This publication is designed for: builders, contractors

This publication provides several APA recommendations for dealing with snow and ice on wood structural panels like plywood and oriented strand board (OSB). These recommendations provide guidance on removing snow and ice and using materials like sand and ice-melting solutions, and recommends avoiding ice-melting salts due to potential of fastener corrosion.
