NEW CASE STUDY

Luna Vista Case StudyEngineering Solutions for a More Inclusive Community

To address a burgeoning homelessness problem in Mountain View, California, the city partnered with Alta Housing, a community-based nonprofit, to create Luna Vista. This 71-unit, 100% affordable housing community will house low-income households, including 15 units for adults with developmental disabilities, and includes support services on site. With a total budget of $30.5 million, it was crucial to minimize construction costs, so the production team found creative building solutions with engineered wood and prefabricated elements. Floor cassettes, panelized walls and prefabricated stairs kept costs down and accelerated construction times. The prefabricated materials also allowed the construction team to limit the amount of building materials stored on-site, significantly reducing construction debris and cleanup. The project is on track to hit its fall 2021 completion date and obtain LEED Gold certification. Read more about the Luna Vista project.
