2024 IRC Wall Bracing Part II: Wind Design

Live Webinar

Thursday, November 19, 2026

10:00 - 11:00 am PDT

This webinar series will cover wall bracing provisions in the 2024 International Residential Code. Wall bracing serves to protect the structure from wind and seismic failures and is critical to a well designed and constructed house. This series will give participants a clear roadmap to design and verification of wall bracing in residential construction.

In part two of this series, wall bracing for wind resistance is explained. This session helps participants identify length requirements and how they are adjusted based on characteristics of the structure. Spacing and minimum panel requirements are covered to ensure a complete design. Although the design is crucial, the execution is equally important, so key wall bracing connections are presented to provide practical guidance for the field. A simple example is presented to demonstrate the design process and evaluate design alternatives.

What you’ll learn:

  1. Implement wall bracing to meet strength and stability requirements for wind design.

  2. Recognize when adjustment factors are needed and utilize them to ensure a complete design.

  3. Identify critical wall bracing connections.

  4. Assess when preliminary wall bracing design is insufficient and evaluate alternatives to maintain compliance.

What you’ll earn:

  • A downloadable certificate of completion is available after watching this webinar in its entirety

  • CEUs and certificate(s) received upon course completion are transferrable and may be applied towards PDHs or other general CEUs/certifications, such as PE
