This webinar series will cover wall bracing provisions in the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC). Wall bracing serves to protect the structure from wind and seismic failures and is critical to a well designed and constructed house. This series will give participants a clear roadmap to design and verification of wall bracing in residential construction.
The third part of this series discusses wall bracing to resist seismic forces. This session discusses seismic irregularities. Then the webinar discusses the concrete steps of the design process: identifying length requirements and utilizing the appropriate adjustment factors based on aspects of the structure. Additionally, high seismic regions have some specific connection requirements outlined in the code to ensure a complete load path. An example is presented to demonstrate the design process and evaluate design alternatives.
What you’ll learn:
Determine when to use prescriptive seismic design and when engineered solutions are needed
Implement wall bracing to meet strength and stability requirements for seismic design.
Recognize when adjustment factors are needed and utilize them.
Identify critical wall bracing connections and foundation requirements.
What you’ll earn:
A downloadable certificate of completion is available after watching this webinar in its entirety
CEUs and certificate(s) received upon course completion are transferrable and may be applied towards PDHs or other general CEUs/certifications, such as PE
