Luxury Boulder Residence
This case study examines how builder Bob Cahn used glulam beams to meet the structural and design demands of a 5,200-square-foot custom luxury residence in Boulder, Colorado. The project required engineered wood solutions capable of spanning an open floor plan across a steeply sloping site — challenges that traditional dimension lumber could not efficiently address. Glulam was specified for floor beams, window headers, and point-load framing locations where steel would otherwise have been required.

The case study details the measurable performance and cost advantages glulam delivered on this project, including reduced cost compared to steel alternatives and decreased labor time during installation. It also covers how the full engineered wood framing system — incorporating wood I-joists and OSB alongside glulam — supported both the structural requirements and the high-end finish standards the project demanded.
