APA Laboratory Testing Capabilities B707
Technical Guides
In 2019, APA expanded the research capabilities at its laboratory in Tacoma, Washington. The 42,000-square-foot lab has long been recognized as one of the leading wood research facilities in North America. The facility is 40 feet high and has a 4-foot-thick reinforced strong floor, 10 strong wall blocks with anchors, twin 5-ton cranes and equipment to accommodate full-scale structural testing.
This publication contains an overview of laboratory testing capabilities, equipment highlights and descriptions of research and testing initiatives that can be conducted at the APA facilities.
APA conducts research and testing on timber structures using wood structural panels, engineered wood products and mass timber assemblies. This includes full-scale diaphragm tests, wood structural panel wall assemblies, CLT shear wall evaluations, and simulated wind and seismic loadings, among others.
